Challenge

• Create critical components and parts used for drop-in replacements for wear parts without needing high-cost dye cast and molding for extremely low quantities. Customer previously designed components within the limits of molding and machining capabilities, often requiring up to 6 individual builds, plus fabrication, which introduced a potential for errors along the way.

Solution

• PrintForm consulted with the engineers who were able to design with a purpose in mind, exclusively, as the builds were transitioned into DMLS, printed as a single component, and could be printed on demand as needed for JIT inventory.

Benefit

• Decreased fabrication costs, quicker turn around for critical low volume parts, printed only as needed rather than waiting 8 weeks to get 500 pieces and only needing 1 or 2. The new system takes 2 weeks for a few as 1 or two pieces and the parts ship directly from PrintForm to the end customer in white label branded OEM packaging.
